Whew… Social media management can be tricky. With so many different platforms, advertising strategies and ways to engage with your online audience, we don’t blame you if you’ve made a few blunders… But perhaps you don’t even realise that you’ve been making them!
So take in our list below, become aware of these social media management mistakes, and avoid making them at all costs!
Mistake #1- Lack of a Strategy
When you start your business’s social media journey, ensure that you have a goal in mind. What is your priority? Is it to create a large following? Is it to convey news and info to your clients? Is it to solidify your brand’s voice? Set goals and decide on ways in which you can realistically achieve them.
Mistake #2- Incomplete Profile
Your social media profile is essentially free advertising for your business. It would be a waste to have any incomplete profiles. In fact, it would probably be better to not have a profile at all, than to have an incomplete one.
Ensure that you list as many details as possible on all profiles, including an address, contact number, link to your website and email address. You should also have high quality profile and cover photos in place to create an impactful first impression.
Mistake #3- No Cohesion
Nothing looks more unprofessional than a company’s social media feed that displays grainy, mismatched images and posts that don’t quite fit the brand image.
Don’t leave your followers confused. Have a colour scheme in place and share at least one branded post a week. Other posts should be completely brand relevant so that you create a strong and relatable online voice for your business. Remember to speak to your target audience!
Mistake #4- Irregular Posts
If you visit a company’s Facebook page and notice that their last post was three months ago, you don’t exactly feel confident about the brand. You may even wonder if the business is still operating!
Ensure that you post at least once a week to keep your profiles looking alive. Try to post at the same time and on the same days each week, so that followers can start anticipating posts from you.
Mistake #5- Unanswered Comments
By leaving comments unanswered, especially ones that include questions and complaints, you give off the impression that you do not care about your followers- and this impression is not just felt by the commenters themselves, but by everyone who reads the unanswered comments too. Ensure that you spend some time each day responding to messages and comments, being as authentic as possible.
Mistake #6- Lacklustre Content
There is not much point in posting content if it isn’t going to be engaging, is there? Use high quality, eye-catching imagery, alongside attention-grabbing text (no typos!). Realise that there is a lot of competition out there and that if you want to succeed you are going to need to stand out. Engaging content will result in more likes, more shares and more followers!
